Colt's Christening and 5 Months

What an exciting and memorable weekend! Colt turned 5 months and was also Christened at Covenant United Methodist Church on Sunday, October 11, 2009. His family and friends were all there to witness this very special occasion. He, of course, had his Dad and Mom there along with family: KK, Papa John, Nana, Pops, Aunt Elyse, Uncle Brian and cousin Troy (4 weeks), Mamama and Crawford. Friends that attended were: Tony Ferrante, Ed and Leslie Cox, Brandon Arkle (wife Leah was sick), Barry, Deborah and Canon Moss, Jordan, Alicia and Ava Yates, Will, Tuan, Alex and Julia Blank and Kyle, Mandy and Luke Chavers.

Colt wore the Christening gown made by my mother (KK) and was absolutely beautiful on him. I have to say, our little boy can be very pretty!!
See pictures taken at the church before the service:

The actual ceremony was short and sweet and given by our most favorite pastor Hays McKay along with associate pastors Kyle Gatlin and Mike Hoppe. After Hays described the many ways of Christening and the purpose of the process, Josh and I were called to the front to stand before God and many witnesses to hand our little baby boy over to God promising that we will direct him, raise him, teach him and pray for him to know, trust and follow the Lord. As the water was sprinkled on his sweet little head, he was baptized in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost. Hays then raised him to the congregation and declared that he was "a child of God." That part always get me:) Seeing a sweet innocent little baby being raised for everyone to see…a beautiful little miracle.

For the remaining service, Colt was a little angel…for half of the service, he sat snuggled up in his Dad's lap just looking around, was then handed over to me for a mid-service bottle then watched the remaining service. He did get a burst of energy when I went to burp him…he's seems to like to jump up and down in my lap, but we didn't hear a peep from him…he's definitely starting this Christianity thing on the right foot:)

Hays is doing a series on Balancing Your Life and today's service was on balancing your finances…money. Who doesn't need to hear about that. The most significant thing that stood out to me is that you can't serve the both God and money…that God doesn't want your money, stuff, belongings, all he wants his your heart.

Here is a picture after the ceremony with the family (Brian and Troy were out taking a stroll):

We provided a lunch for everyone after the service at our house. We had bruchetta for an appetizer, Lasagna, Chicken Alfredo (made by Stoffers) and salad for the main course and pecan pie, coconut pie (made by Nana), cheesecake, and peanut butter pie for desert. Everything was very good and so easy! Luckily I had A LOT of help from my mother, so everything looked so cute and festive (to us anyway). We had many many babies there, but Colt had to have his friends there right? All the babies: Colt, Canon, Ava, Julia and Troy…Luke couldn't come because his Daddy didn't feel too hot. Oh, things have changed! Aunt Rebecca also showed up which was a very nice surprise!

I had been checking out weather.com and the local news all week to see how the weather was going to be Sunday and everyday it read a 40% chance of rain and the block for Sun always had a big rain cloud on it with no sun. I was a little disappointed b/c I wanted to set up a table outside since we do have a nice looking back yard and a covered porch. Well…maybe weather.com and the new stations' meteorologists were all on vacation last week, b/c I'm not sure if there was a cloud in the sky…there probably was, but it was a beautiful sunny day…perfect. So, we ended up setting a table outside and it was a perfect place for all the boys (excuse me…men).

Here are some pictures of our friends and family that attended:

After all of our friends went home for the afternoon, KK, Papa John, Elyse, Brian, Troy, Rebecca and I spent some time together taking pictures, catching up and of course playing with the babies:).
Here are some pictures taken by my sister Elyse (she's really good!):

With all the excitement, we can't forget that Colt turned 5 months also. And somehow I found time to see how much he weighed, he weighed 19 lbs even and was 26.5 inches long. I weighed and measured him myself, so who knows how accurate it is. Here is a little update on what he's doing now:
Eating: 6-7 oz every 3 hours and the solid food thing is still a work in process. He has had cereal (of course) and sweet potatoes, green beans, peas, bananas and applesauce. Our goal for the 6th month is to work on a schedule! It's a little difficult:(
Cloths: 6 months, 6-9 months and some 9-12 months depending on the brand. The 3-6 months is a little snug these days…you would think!

Diapers: Size 3

Development: He's getting very good at grabbing objects, following sounds, movement, rolling over from his back to front. He's starting to sit up and will for several seconds and likes to stand and bounce, laughs a lot and talks.
Play: He has discovered he loves to stick his tongue out, we see that little tongue a lot these days, loves his jumperoo, playing on the floor, watching Daisy and Gizzy, being talked to, attention, looking in the mirror, watching Noggin (now Nick-Jr.), being held, and me (j/k…ok,I'm not) and his Daddy.
Here are some of our favorite photos of Colt we took this weekend:

When it was all said and done...we were pretty darn tired and worn out!

  2. So sweet! He was such a good boy for his Christening. Sorry we couldn't come to the party, but I did get to play with Colt at Alicia's house today!
